Call for Film Submissions for 2024 Resilience Awards with over $35,000 in prizes
Shine Global is pleased to announce the call for submissions for the 2024 Resilience Awards with over $35,000 in prizes for films that highlight the resilience and strength of children in the face of adversity. Submissions are due through the FilmFreeway platform by May 31st, 2024.
Through Our Eyes: Homefront to Broadcast on PBS in May
Audiences across the US now have the opportunity to experience the powerful documentary film “Through Our Eyes: Homefront” directed by Kristi Jacobson and produced with Sesame Workshop about military families on PBS.org and public television stations nationwide (check local listings).
Shine Global and ReelAbilities Film Festival Announce Children’s Resilience in Disability Stories Award for Okthanksbye
Shine Global announced that the feature film Okthanksbye, directed by Nicole Van Kilsdonk, has been honored with the Children’s Resilience in Disability Stories Award at ReelAbilities 2024. This new prize is given to a film that highlights the resilience and strength of children with disabilities.

Dounia – The Great White North Wins Shine Global’s Unstoppable Kids Prize at NYICFF
Shine Global is thrilled to announce that “Dounia – The Great White North” has been honored with the Unstoppable Kids Prize co-presented with New York International Children’s Film Festival (NYICFF). This new prize is given to a film that highlights the resilience and strength of children in the face of adversity. The winner of the Unstoppable Kids Prize is awarded $2,500 and an invitation to participate in Shine Global’s Resilience Awards events.

Comedy Against the Odds
10-year-old Austin has Autism. He’s also an aspiring stand-up comic. This short documentary spotlights the struggle of growing up with labels, and how Austin uses comedy to embrace and overcome them. More Info
Home is Somewhere Else
An animated feature documentary providing a window into the hearts and minds of immigrant youth and their undocumented families. This 2D feature “animentary” features three personal stories about immigrant youth to highlight the complexities and challenges they face today. Voiced by the actual children and their families, the stories are woven together by spoken word poet Lalo “El Deportee.” Now booking screenings for schools and communities.

A six-year-old boy named Hossain grows up in the world’s largest refugee camp in Bangladesh as the Rohingya refugee crisis becomes increasingly dangerous. Hossain arrived at the refugee camps in Bangladesh with his parents and six siblings in August 2017 along with approximately 800,000 other people when violence against the Rohingya in Myanmar escalated. These refugees are at the frontlines of the most urgent challenges facing humans today, including: hate, climate change, poverty, xenophobia, and immigration. Now screening in film festivals.
